THE GREAT COMMANDMENT
"Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” - Matthew 22:36-40
The premise is simple. When Jesus said, "love your neighbor as yourself," He built in a strategy for believers to reach their community, and even city, starting right next door. The Art of Neighboring is designed to engage believers in showing and sharing God's love right where we are.
What would happen if every follower of Jesus took the Great Commandment literally? Is it possible that the answer to our society’s biggest issues is the thing that Jesus said matters most? What would happen if we each knew and loved our actual neighbors, if we cultivated the true “Art of Neighboring?”
MAKING AN IDEA A REALITY
The Art of Neighboring movement seeks to enable us to live out this commandment by equipping believers through two avenues: a 4 week sermon series and a 6 week small group study.
SERMON SERIES (April 18 - May 9)
Join us as we learn how to be intentional in relationships with our literal neighbors.
Our hope is that the people who are a part of this movement will move from strangers to acquaintances, then from acquaintances to relationship with the people who live closest to them.
Week One (April 18) - Taking the Great Commandment Seriously
Week Two (April 25) - Special Guest: Rev Glenda Fields (Church Planter in Detroit)
Week Three (May 2) - The Time Barrier
Week Four (May 9) - The Fear Factor
SMALL GROUP (Begin April 14)
Beginning the Wednesday, April 14, we will launch a 6 week, small group study on the Art of Neighboring.
This study is designed to complement the sermon series and equip each small group member to take the next small step in building relationships in their neighborhood.
